Catering workers to form human chain

Kozhikode: Thousands of catering workers in Kerala will form human chains around five railway stations in the state on February 22, in protest against the Railways’ new catering policy.

This method of protest by the Railway Contract Catering Workers’ Union (RCCWU), without delaying rail movement, will be held around Kannur, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Kottayam stations, against the move to hand over the sector to private players in the country, T. Dasan and P.V. Kunhayan Koya of RCCWU told reporters here.

They said Union Railway Minister Laloo Prasad, who promised alternative arrangements by incorporating provisions in the policy, had failed to fulfil his word, resulting in likely retrenchment of thousands of workers, they alleged.
