VVIPs grace Chatwal wedding

NEW DELHI, Feb. 19. — Former US President Mr Bill Clinton, joined a black-tie reception in honour of American millionaire Mr Vikram Chatwal and his bride model Ms Priya Sachdev after the couple sealed their nuptials in a traditional Sikh ceremony today. “I wish you a happy married life ahead,” Mr Clinton said in his brief remark during a reception in honour of the couple whose marriage became one of the most lavish society weddings staged in India.

Among the guests at Mr Chatwal’s recep-tion today were Planning Comm-ission deputy chair-man Mr Montek Singh Ahlu-whalia, Army Chief JJ Singh, former National Commision for Minorites Chairman Mr Tarlochan Singh, MP Ms Jayapradha and Samajwadi Party leader Mr Amar Singh, Mrs Tina Ambani and a host of business leaders.

The Maratha Light Infantry played the band in a luxury hotel here as guests, mostly West-erners, tapped feet to its beat at what is billed as the sea-son’s most extravagant wedding. Earlier in the day, Mr Chatwal, son of US hotelier Mr Sant Singh Chatwal, tied the knot with Priya at a traditional Sikh ceremeny at Rakab Ganj road here. The bride and the groom vowed fidelity at a congregational gathering under a beige marquee.

Among the guests today at the morning religious cere-mony were Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife Mrs Gursharan Kaur. The priest apprised the couple of the duties of married life according to the Guru’s teachings. — PTI
