Best Bakery retrial: Court to deliver verdict Tuesday, February 21, 2006 (Mumbai):

Eighteen months after charges were framed, a sessions court is expected to deliver its verdict in the Best Bakery retrial case.
Fourteen people were killed when a mob attacked the Best Bakery in Vadodara on March 1, 2002.
Twenty-one people were charged, of which four are still absconding. A total number of 4600 pages were recorded as evidence.
Eyewitness account

Zaheera Sheikh, the main eyewitness lost her family in the incident. After the trial court in Gujarat acquitted all the 21 accused, Zaheera moved the Supreme Court demanding a retrial.
On April 12, 2004, the SC ordered a retrial and transferred the case to a special court in Mumbai.
Zaheera however, turned hostile at the Mumbai court, accusing social activist Teesta Setalvad of forcing her to lie in court. The Mumbai court framed charges in September 2004 and the trial began a month later.
