`Kidnapped' girl to be sent to juvenile home

THRISSUR: Judicial first class magistrate Thrissur S Jayakumar has ordered that the 15-year-old girl from Marathakkara near here, who was allegedly kidnapped by one Sangeeth from the nearby area, should be sent to the juvenile home in Kozhikode.

The girl and Sangeeth were brought here on Monday from Tamil Nadu by the Crime Branch officials. Sangeeth had already been remanded in judicial custody till March 6 by the magistrate.

The girl claimed that she had married Sangeeth and was four-month pregnant. She informed the court that she did not want to go back to her parents, even though her parents had filed a petition saying that they would protect her, as she was a minor.

However, the magistrate had on Monday directed the police to conduct a medical test to verify the girl’s claim of being pregnant.

Accordingly, the police conducted medical test at Medical College Hospital and the girl was found pregnant. The police then submitted the certificate before the magistrate on Tuesday.

Even though the age of the girl was initially given as 14, her certificate showed that her date of birth was May 12, 1990. The magistrate then conceded her request not to send her with the parents and ordered that she be sent to the juvenile home with adequate protection.

The girl and Sangeeth were taken into custody by the Tamil Nadu police on Sunday following a complaint given to the Chennai city police by the father of the girl.

The parents of the girl had complained that the girl was kidnapped by Sangeeth on March 11 last after luring her with an offer to give chance to act in television serials
