BY HERALD REPORTER, PANJIM, FEB 22 –
The Education Department has initiated the process for taking back Government primary school premises, which had been given to NGOs mainly having affiliation to Sangh Parivar in 2001.
Last week, the North Goa District Congress Committee President Gurudas Gawas had demanded that the Government should not delay any further in taking over the physical possession of premises of Government primary schools.
They were given by then BJP government on the grounds that the private organizations would run them as per the requirement of the Goa Education Act. Many of these schools earlier were closed for lack of student strength.
Education Director Dr Celsa Pinto has now written to the organizations withdrawing the provisional permission granted to them in 2001 and asking them to hand over the premises to the Government.
Notices have gone to five schools in Ponda taluka, four schools each in Bardez and Pernem, three in Sanguem, two in Canacona, one each in Bicholim, Mormugao and Salcete.
