Kabul, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina) Four Afghan Policemen died and one official wounded were the toll of an ambush on a patrolling Police car by Taliban rebels.
A military source reported the attack in Gereshk, Helmand, a former bastion of the Taliban movement prior to the US 2001 invasion, adding that the assailants fled the area, leaving one dead behind.
The attack coincides with the deployment of 3,300 Britons from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which plans to boost troops to 15,000 and complete their US counterparts’ replacement.
NATO forces now sum 9,000 men with missions so far restricted to the capital, north and west Afghanistan. The US forces total more than 20,000 troops.
The invaders have reported numerous attacks in recent weeks mostly in Helmand and Kandahar provinces, in line with Taliban promises to evict the foreign troops and the cabinet in power.
