Mumbai retrial an attempt to malign Guj BJP's image: Srivastav

Vadodara, Feb 24: Reacting to the Mumbai High Court verdict in the Best Bakery retrial today, BJP MLA from Vadodara Madhu Srivastav alleged that the NGOs including that of activist Teesta Setalvad were trying to malign the name of BJP government in Gujarat.

Srivastav blamed the NGOs and activist Teesta Seetalvad for taking the case for retrial outside Gujarat.

"It is a part of a conspiracy. They are trying to dent the image of BJP government in Gujarat which has been in power for last three terms since 1995," Srivastav said.

"I do not want to say anything on the judgement. I am busy attending the budget session of the Gujarat Assembly in Gandhinagar and do not know about the details of the judgement," he said.

Asked if he would help the relatives of the nine persons who were convicted in the Bakery case today, Srivastav said, "Why only these relatives? I being the people’s representative will help all those who come to me for help." Srivastav also maintained that he had never known Zaheera Sheikh (a key witness in the case) nor had spoken to her in the past.

It has been alleged that Srivastav had a role in Zaheera repeatedly turning hostile in the case when the matter was heard in Vadodara and Mumbai courts.
