VHP introduces Ramayan, Mahabharat in curriculum

Press Trust of India, Mumbai, February 24, 2006

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has introduced adaptations of Ramayan and Mahabharat in schools across Mumbai.  The change has been introduced in 264 schools and over 52,000 students have enrolled for the course.

Shrimad Ramayan Parichay Yojana Samiti, the organisation introducing this change, has roped in popular TV ‘bahu’ Smriti Irani as its brand ambassador.

"Being a brand ambassador for such a noble cause is a matter of pride for me. I get to preach what I practice," Irani said.

The Samiti, headed by Mohan Salekar, has prepared books on ‘Katharup Ramayan’ for students of class five, `Charitra Ramayan’ for those of class six and `Katharup Mahabharat’ for seventh and eighth class students.
