Patiala (Punjab), Feb 24 : today registered a criminal case against unknown persons in the incident of of a dalit in the Nabha Jail on January 20 this year. Senior Superintendent of Police Amardeep Singh said a case under section 3 of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Cruelty Act had been registered at the Nabha Kotwali Police Station.
He said the police would conduct a day-to-day inquiry into the allegation made by Narinder Singh, an undertrial facing murder charges, against the jail staff and other associates. He said so far it was quite evident that Narinder Singh had been subjected to acts of cruelty. He said how the word "choora" was inscribed on his back was yet to be ascertained by the police. He said the police inquiry would be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent of the Police, who had been asked to conduct a through probe and report the matter as soon as possible.
