Spat between Ramdev and Communists sharpen

Ranchi, Feb 24: The spat between Ramdev and the Communists sharpened today with the guru claiming yoga could put an end to communism and senior Left leaders alleging his ongoing yoga camp was becoming a political platform.

"Communists distorted our history … Yoga will wipe them out. But, of course, not the good Communists" Ramdev told thousands of participants at his camp.  A joint press release by CPI and CPI(M) said the yoga camp was being used for political campaign against the opposition particularly Left parties in view of assembly elections in five states, including neighbouring West Bengal.

Addressing a joint press conference, CPI(M)’s Jharkhand unit secretary J S Majumdar and CPI’s assistant secretary Khagendra Thakur accused the state’s ruling NDA of misusing government machinery for political campaign. "Chief Minister Arjun Munda should tender a public apology as he is responsible for organising the platform for narrow political interest of the BJP and its associates," they alleged.

To a query, Thakur said he would not withdraw his PIL against the alleged forcing of school teachers and students to attend Ramdev’s camp. The Left parties, he said, would politically fight the alleged politicisation of the yoga camp, Mazumdar said. The Left leaders also sought to know why Ramdev was not going around villages to teach the poor there free of cost. Introducing CPI(M)’s district head Munna Goswami before the press, Mazumdar claimed the man was a yoga exponent and could better Ramdev.
