Setting at rest all speculations regarding the whereabouts of Best Bakery prime witness-turned-hostile Zaheera Sheikh, city Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop today confirmed that she was in Mumbai.
Talking to UNI, he said Zaheera had left Vadodara since long and has reportedly been living with other family members in Mumbai.
Rejecting the speculation that Zaheera was living at an undisclosed place in Vadodara, Mr Swaroop said he had no information as to when she would return to the city.
When contacted, Atul Patel, Zaheera’s counsel, said he had absolutly no idea about her whereabouts as neither Zaheera nor any other family member had contacted him, even after the Mumbai court pronounced its verdict yesterday.
Mr Patel, who had earlier said that the Sheikh family would fight the perjury action as ordered by the Mumbai court in its verdict yesterday, said he was yet to receive court notices reportedly issued against Zaheera, her mother Sehrunissa, sister Saheerabano and two brothers Nafitullah and Nasibullah.
Zaheera and her entire family had shifted to Vadodara in November, 2004, and barring Nafitullah’s family, all were staying in a rented house in the Payal society, which falls under the jurisdiction of Makarpur police station.
Meanwhile, Nafitullah who was living with his Hindu wife Heena and their son in the renovated Best Bakery, is now reportedly undergoing medical treatment for pancreatitis in a hospital in Mumbai.
