Babri Masjid demolition case: Defence plea for list rejected

Rae Bareli, Feb 27: The designated court hearing the (Ayodhya) – Babri Masjid demolition case against former BJP President L K Advani and seven others today rejected the defence application asking for a list of CBI witnesses to be produced. Special CBI Judge V K Singh, who earlier reserved his order, rejected the application but allowed the defence a month’s time to file a revision petition in the Allahabad High Court.
The court posted further hearing in the matter to April 15.

The defence counsels had pleaded that the CBI, which is the prosecution, should hand over the list of the sequence of witnesses to be produced in the matter. CBI’s counsel however opposed the application contending that there was no provision in the law which required the agency to furnish such a list to the defence.  Besides Advani, former Union Ministers Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, VHP leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmiya and Sadhvi Ritambhara and BJP leader Vinay Katiyar are the accused in the case.
