Ahmedabad, February 26: Communal tension erupted in Behrampura area on Sunday afternoon, following an incident of stone-pelting between two communities over a trivial issue.
Danilimda police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. However, there was no reports of anybody sustaining serious injuries.
“Two youths of different communities had a fight few days ago over some issue near Parikshitlal Nagar. The matter was then resolved, but on Sunday two again entered a heated argument which led to stone-pelting,” said Danilimda police inspector B L Vagh.
Police had to lob 30 tear gas shells to control the crowd of around 1,500 people. “Jawans of the State Reserve Police Force also fired two rounds in the air to disperse the rampant crowd,” added Vagh.
Ten persons have been arrested under the charges of rioting and further investigations are on. Following the incident, senior police officers rushed to the spot to take note of the situation. Till Sunday evening, the situation was under control.
