KANNUR: The district which witnessed violent attacks on offices of the CPM and the IUML, that followed the district conference of the IUML on Friday, is yet to be free from tension.
Isolated incidents of attacks on party offices and a place of worship were reported on Sunday also. A country bomb was thrown at a place of worship at Ponniyam near Thalassery turning the situation further worse.
The police used grenades to scare away a group of CPM activists at Kolari who tried to attack the local office of the Muslim League.
The police used grenades when the belligerent group of CPM activists refused to leave the premises of the IUML office.
Incidents of attacks on party offices and party workers also took place at Payyanur, Taliparamba and Chapparappadavu on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the police arrested nearly 30 persons in connection with the violent incidents and took into preventive custody a number of others belonging to both the CPM and the Muslim League.
Inspector General of Police M N Krishna Murthy and other senior officials visited the trouble-hit areas in Taliparamba on Sunday.
