Train to the Taj Mahal quicker
Tourists can now reach India’s Taj Mahal by train faster than ever before thanks to a new high-speed rail link. Services from New Delhi to Agra cuts the journey time to less than two hours. Train visitors to the marble mausoleum will be able to travel daily except Fridays when the Taj Mahal is shut. Located in Agra, it is India’s top tourist attraction and in several surveys is regarded as a modern wonder of the world. The complex of buildings was built in the mid-17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite wife. It is now one of the world’s top tourist attractions and its buildings and gardens are frequented throughout the year. The high quality of the workmanship, by some regarded as the best existing example of Mughal architecture, combined with the romantic inspiration for its creation, are just some of the reasons people visit. With the new high-speed link it will become even quicker for tourists to get to India’s most famous monument.
