PATHANAMTHITTA: The Travancore devaswom Board at its meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday decided to implement 33 per cent reservation in devaswom jobs for the backward class among the Hindu communities.
The board meeting, which took the decision, was attended by members Punalur Madhu and M.B.Sreekumar. TDB president G Raman Nair, who is undergoing treatment, did not attend the meeting.
The decision of the board was sent to the Government for the statutory approval.
Of around 6,000 devaswom jobs at present, the members of the backward communities, including Ezhavas, constitute only 450, M B Sreekumar said.
The initiatives for community-based appointments in the TDB was started in 1997 by the than board members Kaviyad Divakara Panicker and M V G Nampoothiri, Sreekumar said.
