Several Dalit organisations in Rajasthan took out a rally here Monday demanding immediate and effective steps against "increasing cases of atrocities and violence against them".
Thousands of activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Raigar Yuva Mahasabha, Prantiya Yuva Mahasabha, Rajasthan Jatav Mahasabha and other Dalit organisations participated in the rally.
They started the rally from the Government Hostel here and, after covering major routes of the city, the rally ended at the Statue Circle where it converted into a public meeting.
Addressing the rally, Hanumant Singh, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Parisangh, a national federation of Dalit organisations, said that atrocities against Dalits or lower caste Hindus were on the rise in the state and the government had been insensitive in dealing with such cases.
Phool Chand Billonia, state president of Akhil Bharatiya Raigar Yuva Mahasabha, said the rise in cases of violence targeting Dalits had created a panic in the entire community.
The leaders threatened to step up the agitation if the government failed to check atrocities against Dalits.Representatives of the organisations later submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
