Kerala: BJP criticised for trying to bring in communal divide

Kochi, Mar 6: Congress today accused BJP of trying "every possible trick" to bring in communal divide in Goa, which had been witnessing violent incidents following the demolition of a place of worship at Sanvordem town.

"The BJP unnecessarily demolished a madrasa on the government land in Goa like they demolished the Babri Masjid," AICC General Secretary in charge of Goa Margaret Alva alleged while talking to reporters here on the sidelines of the party’s Kerala state conference.

She said the miniority community acted with restraint. Members of the community who had gathered at a mosque were attacked using bottles and stones, she said.

The CISF and Rapid Action Force personnel had been rushed and prohibitory orders imposed, she said adding senior leader Ahmed Patel has also rushed to Goa. She herself was leaving for that state.

"Whoever breaks the law, action should be taken irrespective of the fact if the person is an MLA or a minister", she said.

Alva, who also has the charge of West Bengal, said 15 Congress leaders will be meeting at Delhi tomorrow to take a decision on poll alliances.
