President greets Indian women on eve of I'ntl Women's Day

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today extended greetings to all the women of India for their role in transforming the country into a developed nation by 2020.

In his message on the eve of the International Women’s Day, Dr Kalam said, ”I extend my warm greetings and felicitations to all the women of India for their important role in our mission.” The President said Indian women have played a major role in a number of fields and professions over the years.

”Women are a source of inspiration for the family, society and ultimately a nation. When a woman is empowered with value-based education, empowered society with stability is assured,” he added.

Several programmes, including seminars, exhibitions and panel discussions, are being organised across Delhi tomorrow to mark the day.

While the United Nations in Delhi is hosting a panel discussion on ‘Women in Decision Making’, the FICCI Ladies Organisation and Shanti Sahyog is organising a seminar where Mrs Gursharan Kaur, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s wife, will deliver an address.

Many organisations, including the National Network of Sex Workers (NNSW), have organised protest march to highlight their problems.
