VARANASI: The Center and Uttar Pradesh will jointly probe the Varanasi serial blasts, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi said here on Tuesday night.

Gandhi and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil arrived here to take stock of the situation, after suspected terrorists triggered blasts in the temple town in the evening. Talking to reporters at BHU Hospital, Gandhi said the state and Center should sit together to chalk out strategy to deal with such situations.Gandhi said, ”It is our first duty to ensure people’s well-being rather doing politics” over such incident.

”We have to fight unitedly to prevent such incidents in future without criticising the Mulayam (Singh) government.” The UPA chairperson stressed the need for closer coordination between the state and Centre over such security issues. Gandhi said the guilty would be arrested and brought to justice.

Patil, who was accompanying Gandhi, said the Centre was ready to provide assistance to the state.
Both leaders visited the Sankatmochan Temple and the Cantonment railway station, where the blasts occurred. UP state incharge of Congress, Ashok Ghelot, accompanied the leaders.
