PANJIM: Former Industries minister Sheikh Hassan yesterday said that Muslims minority were presently feeling insecure under the Congress since the party failed to protect them during the communal violence in Sanvordem and Curchorem. However, he maintained that the Muslims would align towards the Congress if Rane-led government tried to protect them and give full compensation to the affected Muslim families. The former minister said that following communal riots in Curchorem, he doesn’t see any place for Muslim minority in the BJP, unless the party changed its agenda. (GT)

Skeletons tumble over prayer house demolition

CURCHOREM, Mar 8: The controversy over the illegal Muslim prayer house at Guddamol-Sanvordem, which was demolished by miscreants sparking off riots, has taken a new twist, with the Sanvordem panchayat claiming that misleading documents were submitted to obtain a stay on the demolition notice. (H)

Riot loss pegged at Rs.2.2 crore

PANJIM, Mar 8: About 120 families of minority community have suffered due to communal riots in Curchorem and Sanvordem last week, while the loss to property, is estimated to be about Rs.2.25 crore. Informing this at a press conference, Panchayat Minister Subhas Shirodkar said , these are initial estimates, while four teams of mamlatdars are still assessing the damages and losses caused due to riots. ‘Set up peace committees’

CURCHOREM: Panchayats minister Subhas Shirodkar yesterday stressed the need to set up peace committees in all villages of Goa in view of the communal violence in Curchorem and Sanvordem. Addressing a meeting of the people of all communities at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, after visiting the Sanvordem and Curchorem areas, Shirodkar said that while the situation was peaceful and normalcy had returned, about 120 families were affected during the riots.
