THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,Kerala: The exclusion of the southern districts of the State from the Madrassa Modernisation Programme of the Central Government has raised many eyebrows.
The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development had earmarked Rs 59 lakh for the State under the Madrassa Modernisation Programme.
As part of the programme, Rs 86,000 each has been set apart for 92 Madrassas in the Malabar region.
C H Mohammed Koya Education Trust here has urged the State Education Department and the Union HRD Ministry not to restrict the programme to the Malabar region.
Trust convener T A Abdul Wahab said that the programme should be extended to other Muslim majority backward regions of the State.
There are many pockets in the southern parts of the State which are educationally backward and high density of Muslim population. The benefits of the programme should be made available to 100 odd Madrassas functioning in these areas too, he said.
