KOTTAYAM,Kerala: In a last-ditch effort for the safe release of incarcerated PDP leader Abdul Nassar Madani, who is languishing in Coimbatore jail for the past eight years pending trial in the bomb blast case, the state leadership has decided to appeal to the Election Commission to intervene and grant him parole or interim/conditional bail.
The PDP will organise mass protests againt the denial of justice to Madani at three locations in the state.
The last protest in the series will be held at Thiruvananthapuram on March 31, the day of jailing of the bomb blast case accused eight years ago.
PDP working president Poonthura Siraj told reporters here on Tuesday that the UDF will not be able to face an election while Madani is still in jail.
‘‘No concrete steps have been initiated by the UDF Government so far for the release of Madani from jail. Had the government spoken to its Tamil Nadu counterpart, at least better treatment could have been ensured to Madani,’’ he said.
Siraj said that the PDP still believes that the UDF Government will intervene effectively to facilitate the release of Madani.
