By F. Ahmed, Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Kahar, a hitherto unknown Kashmiri guerrilla group, Thursday claimed responsibility for the serial blasts in Varanasi which killed 15 people and injured over 100.
A spokesman of the group, who identified himself as Abdullah Jabbar alias Abu Kahar, telephoned a local news agency here late Thursday morning to claim responsibility for Tuesday’s twin blasts in the Uttar Pradesh city. The Lashkar-e-Kahar spokesman threatened more such attacks in future.
"We want to inform the people of India that if the atrocities and indiscriminate arrests of Kashmiris don’t stop we will not allow them to sleep in peace. We will carry out more such attacks," the spokesman of the group told Current News Service, a local news agency.
Police, however, say they have no information about the group. A senior police officer told IANS that this group could be a front for another guerrilla group.
"We have no information about this group yet," the officer said.
