Shree Ram Mills heir charged with rape of 52-yr-old

MUMBAI: Twenty seven-year-old Abhishek Kasliwal, the son of Shree Ram Mills owner Ambuj Kasliwal, was arrested by the Worli police on Sunday on charges of the rape and assault of a 52-year-old woman.

Kasliwal was picked up from his Peddar Road residence on Sunday afternoon and will be produced in the Bhoiwada Metropolitan Magistrate court today.

Police sources said that the victim works at a bar at Colaba Causeway. On Friday night, Kasliwal visited the same bar. He offered the victim a lift to Mumbai Central Station around midnight, when she was outside Regal Cinema looking for transport to return home.

However, Kasliwal, who had introduced himself as Vicky Melhotra, drove his green Mercedes (MH-01-R-604) to a secluded place in the Shri Ram Mill compound at Lower Parel.

The victim said that an intoxicated Kasliwal repeatedly raped her in the mill compound. Thereafter, he allegedly assaulted her and dropped her back at Regal Cinema at about 7am. The victim approached the Colaba police station and registered a First Information Report (FIR).

The police sent her to St George’s Hospital and Nagpada police hospital for medical examination. Preliminary reports suggest rape and assault. The victim’s arm was fractured and there were bite marks on her body indicating the use of force.

According to police sources, blood and urine samples collected at the time, indicate that the victim had consumed alcohol as well.

Kasliwal has been held in the lockup of the Worli police station which is investigating the matter. The police went to the mill compound with the victim and questioned the security guard posted at the entrance. The guards admitted that Abhishek’s Mercedes had been allowed inside on Friday night.
