GULBARGA: Many speakers at the inaugural session of a seminar on Buddhism on Sunday felt that Dr B R Ambedkar who embraced Buddhism 50 years ago has shown the path to millions of Dalits.
Inaugurating the seminar Chief Engineer R Rudraiah of Water Resources Department said there was no point in remaining in a religion the basic tenet of, which was exploitation of Dalits and downtrodden.
“Ambedkar was not anti-Hindu. He tried his best to reform the religion and after having failed in his efforts he embraced Buddhism, Rudraiah said.
Assistant Commissioner R K Begar noted that Buddhism, which originated in India could not find a place here but caught the imagination of several other countries.
