Jaipur, March 13. (PTI): The VHP-Bajrang Dal activists today stopped a Chattisgarh-bound goods train bound transporting thousands of heads of cattle at Bhavasa on Jaipur-Phulera section in Rajasthan, apprehending that the animals were being taken for slaughter.
It was stopped at Bhavasa railway station around 6 am and a police team led by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Anil Paliwal rushed to the spot, officials said here.
"The district and railway administration are verfying the legality of transportation of cattle under the law banning cow slaughter," they said.
The train with dozens of wagons carrying cattle left Ajmer yesterday for Chattisgarh via Phulera where it was also stopped for a while by the activists but moved on after senior officials talked to the protestors, they said.
Passenger train services were not affected as the goods train was halted on another track, the officials said.
