Village clash leaves two dead

TWO PERSONSwere killed in violence at Hatuwa village under Gagha police station on Wednesday. Meanwhile, communal tension gripped village Semra number 1 under Gulharia police station over the issue of sprinkling colours.
In the first incident, trouble started on Wednesday when Vivekanand Singh and Lal Bihari Singh, residents of Hatuwa village, raised objections to vulgar songs being played in Dalit localities which they were passing through. The duo was said to be drunk.
Both groups engaged in heated arguments. Half-a-dozen people were injured in the clash that followed. Dalits reportedly beat up Vivekanand Singh. The injured were admitted to the district hospital and the BRD Medical College.
Thereafter, supporters of Vivekanand Singh rushed to the spot and opened fire on Dalits, killing Lalji, a member of the community.
Vivekanand Singh died during treatment in Lucknow on Thursday.
Tension prevailed in the area after the incident and confirmation of the death of Vivekanand Singh. SSP Dipesh Kumar Juneja along with others rushed to the spot and directed subordinates to maintain vigil on the village.
In the second incident, a scuffle between two groups over sprinkling colour took a communal turn at Semra no.1 1 village under Gulharia police station. Sources said 25-year youth Rakesh had thrown colour on members of another community who objected it and beat him up.
Laxmina, resident of the village, sustained injuries. Sources said after burning Holikas, the youths belonging to the upper caste of the village took out a procession and started throwing cow dung on houses of people, particularly Dalits. Members of another community happened to reach the spot.
