Two Dalits shot dead, 8 injured in Holi clash

Two dalits were shot dead and eight others, including three women, injured during a clash between members of two communities during Holi celebrations in Amatpur village of neighbouring Chandauli district, police said today.
Trouble arose late last night when some dalits tried to throw colour on some upper case men who got infuriated and opened fire at them killing one of them on the spot while the other died on way to hospital, they said.
Later, the dalits attacked them and in the ensuing clash eight people, including three women, were injured, they said adding the deceased were identified as Rampati Ram and Ram Nihore Ram.
The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment, police said adding a probe has been ordered into the incident.
Police reinforcement has been rushed to the village and two companies of PAC also deployed as a precautionary measure in view of the brewing tension between the two communities.

TWO DALITS were shot dead while eight others including five Dalits injured when the members of Rajput and Dalit community clashed with each other in Amatpur village under Dhanapur police station of Chandauli district on Wednesday.
Members of both the groups were injured and were admitted to the hospital. Police have not been able to make any arrest so far. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward incident following caste tension there. The cause of the incident is said to be the fallout of the recently held panchayat election.
According to sources, members of Dalit and Rajput community were celebrating Holi in the village on Wednesday afternoon, meanwhile, two members from both sides exchanged heated words with each other. It soon sparked off tension among rest of the members of both castes taking an ugly turn .
Firearms and sharp-edged weapons were used openly in the clash causing death of one Dalit on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Five members of the Dalit community including three women and three members of Rajput community were injured in the clash.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Pati Ram and Ram Nihore Ram. The injured have been identified as Sarswati Devi, Prabhawati Devi, Kihuli Ram, Kaushalya and Ram Lal (all five Dalits) and three Rajputs — Jharkhande, Babloo and Bhuwal.
Commotion gripped the village and the clash continued for half an hour. On getting information, police from throughout the district reached the spot and controlled over the situation.
Meanwhile, four persons were injured when their opponents attacked them with sharp edged weapons in Piparpatia village of Chandauli district on Thursday. Hira sustained severe injury when hit by a sharp edged weapon. He has been referred to the hospital in Varanasi following deterioration in his condition.
Police force has been deployed in the village as a precaution.
