Action sought against Nirwani family

BELGAUM: The recently held election to the board of directors of Kundernad Cooperative Society at Kundergi village of Gokak taluk seems to have proved costly to Nirwani family of the village as the schedule caste and tribe people levelled caste atrocity charges against the family.
About a 100 Dalits, including women of the village, submitted a memorandum to the government urging it to take appropriate action against Umesh Nirwani and eight other members of his family as they had prevented Dalits from entering temples in the village and used filthy language against Dalits.
Nirwani family, backed by BJP, threatens Dalits who dare to complain against them. They have licensed revolvers and rifles and use the same to threaten the Dalits who protest against their atrocities. Dalits said they had lost their rights due to Nirwani family.
Taking note of the recent clash between Nirwani family and Raju Talwar and his supporters, the Dalits said Nirwani family, armed with weapons, attacked Raju Talwar, Borappa Talwar and few other Dalits in connection with election to the board of directors of Kundernad Co-op Society.
As many as 17 persons including six members of Nirwani family, sustained injuries in the clash.
The Dalits urged the government to prevent the anti-dalit acts of Nirwani family to maintain peace in the village.
They submitted a memorandum to S N Nashipudi, an official at the DC office. They also submitted a copy of the same memorandum to the police department.
Meanwhile, the district unit of BJP has asked the government to conduct a judicial inquiry into the case.
