IMPHAL, March 19: After keeping in their captivity for two whole months Kuki Liberation Army released Dr T Lunkim yesterday morning at a place some where in the Sadar Hills. He was handed over to the leaders of some leading Kuki organisations after producing him before a team of media persons.
Before Lunkim was handed over to the leaders of the social and students organisations he was made to apologise to the KLA for his alleged anti-organisation activities and to promised not to indulge in them anymore in future.
The leaders of the Kuki bodies, including the KSO which launch various agitations including rally and general strike against KLA/KLO demanding the unconditional release of Lunkim also made an apology stating that they had conducted the agitations because of a communication gap that made them unaware of the `other face` of Dr. Lunkim.
The KLA accused Dr. Lunkim of misguiding people by spreading false propaganda which blackened the image of the organisation.
They also stated that Lunkim had founded the Kuki Human Rights Organisation for his own vested interest and directed him to resign from the chairmanship of the KHRO.
Accordingly, Lunkim announced his resignation from the post.
It may be noted despite KLA`s warning against rallies or any other movements for the release of the church leader and human rights activists, many Kuki NGOs like the KSO and Kuki Mothers Association, supported by many other organisations held rallies in various Kuki inhabited areas on March 9.
Representatives of KSO had also called on the state chief minister to intervene in the matter and take necessary steps for the rescue of Lunkim from the captivity of KLA.
Charging that the state government did nothing to rescue Lunkim, KSO had called a 24 hours hill district bandh suddenly from midnight of March 16.
In a statement KSO had stated that they were calling the bandh taking serious note of the apathy and negligence of the state government in spite of repeated appeals for securing safe release of Lunkim who has been in the captivity of KLA the since January 17.
It may be noted that the KLA kidnapped Dr. Lunkim on January 17 for his alleged misconduct, which affected the image of the outfit and demanding Rs. 1 Crore as fine for his miss conduct towards the outfits.
The students` organisations even threaten to launch indefinite economic blockade along National Highway-39 and 53 from January 19 onwards.
After Lunkim was release yesterday, the representatives of KSO announced withdrawal of their proposed indefinite economic blockade and other form of agitations on the demand for the release of Lunkim. The representatives KSO also call on with CM which the later assured them to look into the matter and take up necessary steps not to repeat such incidents in future.
One day ahead of the release of Lunkim, in the floor of the house responding to a call attention motion move by BD Behring, O Ibobi Singh said that the state police force assisted by Assam Rifles has been launching special operation to trace out Dr Lunkim.
Further giving reply to Behring`s motion, O Ibobi went to say that since Lunkim is in the custody of an armed militants group, there the security forces were conducting the operation with some restriction. Even the whereabouts of Lunkim is trace out from intelligence outputs, the security force could not act upon it but they were closely vigiling to the movement of this militants group.
O Ibobi also stated that he would hold talk with the KSO to convince them not resort any violent agitations as the state government is also trying to rescue Lunkim.
