Coimbatore, Mar 22: A key accused in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blast case, Abdul Nasser Mahdhani from Kerala, lodged in the Central Jail here for the last eight years, sans trial, was today visited by his parents and brother at the special court premises.
The one-hour meeting was allowed by the special judge, based on a petition filed by the parents.
After the meeting, Madhani’s father, Abdul Samad, accompanied by wife Asma and son Jamal, told reporters that Mahdhani was very weak.
Claiming that he was innocent, Samad alleged ‘political conspiracy by bigger parties behind his being in the jail.
However, he thanked the political parties for passing a resolution in the Kerala Assembly seeking bail for providing medical treatment to Mahdhani.
Observing that the treatment being given inside the jail was not good, Samad also requested to provide better treatment in some good hospital outside.
Meanwhile, the process to provide a new artificial leg was on in the jail hospital for the last one week, jail sources said.
