BELGAUM: Several Dalit leaders of the district have appealed to the Dalits to participate in the Ekta rally, which will be organised in Bangalore on March 27.
Siddappa Kamble, district convenor of DSS, Kempanna Kamble, divisional convenor and Goutam Patil, state dalit leader, told this website’s newspaper on Friday that the rally was being conducted in Bangalore to protest against the removal of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s photo from the chamber of Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa and the insult to the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Bilagi in Bagalkot district.
The leaders said the rally would condemn the incident of parading a dalit woman naked in Solapur by Hindus.
The leaders said Yediyurappa should have been arrested for removing the photo of Dr Ambedkar from his chamber the day he took charge as deputy Chief Minister.
The leaders said atrocities on Dalits were increasing after the new government, with BJP as a partner, had assumed charge in Karnataka.
The Dalits were being insulted and were facing social boycott, they said.
They alleged that ‘‘the statues of Dr Ambedkar are being insulted with the help of communal forces which have government backing.’’
The leaders said the Bangalore Ekta Rally would start from Jakkarayana Kere at 1 pm on March 27 and will end at Government Arts college at 3 PM.
