NK Pandey Saturday, April 1, 2006 (Faridabad): Officials in Haryana say they will pay for the medical treatment of a nine-year old girl and her mother injured in a stampede before a cricket match in Faridabad. They called on the victims at hospital but refused to confirm that police caused the injuries until findings of an inquiry was available.
The girl, Vidhi is receiving intensive treatment for a broken collarbone and injuries to her eye. "We were trampled, people were all over us and we got hurt," she said.
The girl’s mother is in the same hospital with a broken collarbone and a rib fracture. First reports said they were injured when police used force to manage a crowd that tried to gate-crash into the stadium where a match between India and England was played on Friday. The police did use force saying there was no choice to handle the crowd.
