500 Muslim migrants registered despite ban in J&K


Despite a ban on the registration of migrants, over 500 Muslim migrants were registered during the tenure of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, official sources said here today.

"Despite the betterment in security situation in Kashmir, valley, Jammu and Kashmir government during Mufti Sayeed’s tenure registered 500 Muslims as migrants, who claimed to have migrated from Kashmir valley during the past three years," they said. As per the figures, 500 Muslims migrated from Kashmir valley in 2003, 2004 and 2005, when no threat from militants, massacre and killing of their relatives took place, they said. "The answer tabled in Jammu and Kashmir assembly by the government, have virtually shown their ficticious address," they said adding they have been registered under the relief category for getting Rs 3000 relief per month per family plus ration.

Giving further details, they said 158 Muslims were registered as migrants in 2003, 165 Muslims in 2004 and 178 Muslims in 2005.

However, no Hindu among the 19,000 present in Kashmir valley migrated since 1998, they said. As many as 4,311 Muslims from Kashmir valley were registered as migrants from 1990 to February 2006, they said adding out of these, 2121 ceased to exist as migrants subsequently. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Kashmiri Migrants Association President T K Koul said here demanded a CBI probe into the matter."We want a probe by the CBI into the Muslim migrants episode as expect some, most of them are fake migrants".
