NDTV Correspondent Monday, April 3, 2006 (Jammu): A CRPF jawan opened fire outside Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s house in Jammu on Monday, killing three people.
The jawan has been arrested and it is not sure yet if this was a case of accidental firing.
The incident took place at around 8 pm (IST) when the jawan opened fire after his leave application was rejected, official sources said.
He fired indiscriminately around one dozen rounds from his rifle killing an inspector and two constables.
The Chief Minister and his wife Shamima were present at the house when the firing incident took place.
The jawan, who opened the fire, tried to run away but was overpowered and arrested, the sources said.
CRPF is guarding the outer periphery of Azad’s residence in Jammu.
