NDTV Correspondent Monday, April 3, 2006 (New Delhi):
The Supreme court has given time till April 13 to the CBI to give a full report on the cheating in the AIIMS post-graduate entrance test.
Though the Centre wants the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE) to be scrapped, the court has questioned whether all students should be penalised by scrapping the exam altogether.
The court was hearing a petition filed by 12 successful candidates of the exam conducted by AIIMS.
Appearing for the successful candidates, senior counsel Arun Jaitley submitted that merely because 22 of the 36,945 students have been found to have used unfair means the whole examination can not be cancelled. Rank holders in Chennai are furious about the prospect of a re-test.
