SRINAGAR: Believe it or not, but it is true. The police have lodged an FIR against the Army for “wrongfully restraining” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range, K Rajendra Kumar near Radio Kashmir Chowk here.
The incident happened on Thursday morning when Rajendra was traveling in his official vehicle along with an escort. As his cavalcade reached near Radio Kashmir here, a defence personnel stopped Rajendra’s car and asked him to wait till an Army convoy passed. He was allowed to go after the convoy passed.
Angered by this, the police lodged an FIR under section 341 RPC for wrongfully restraining the IGP Kashmir. “Yes we have registered an FIR for wrongful restraining,” said Muneer Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar.
As the news spread the Army went on a damage control. Defence spokesman Lt Col V K Batra said the matter was sorted out after senior army officers talked to Rajendra Kumar.
“We have no knowledge of any FIR. We are just getting the information from the media. There was a slight misunderstanding which has been cleared,” said Col Batra. The defence spokesman added the officer on duty saluted the IGP and politely requested him to wait till the convoy passed
