Policemen injured in attack

Thiruvananathapuram: Five policemen, including a sub inspector, were injured when they were attacked by a group of youth near Pazhanjira Devi Temple in Poonthura police station limits late on Monday.

The injured sub inspector was identified as Hanish Lal, the station house officer of Poonthura police station. The injured policemen were Babu, Chandran, Radhakrishnan and Praveen. The SI has sustained a fracture on his hand. The policemen have been admitted to the General Hospital.

The incident occurred late on Monday when the police tried to arrest four youth who were allegedly behaving in a drunken and riotous manner at the Pazhanjira devi temple festival venue. The police have arrested the youth suspected to be responsible for the attack. They were identified as Rajeev, Sujith Kumar, Abdul Latheef and Suresh. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Four stabbed in clash

Four persons were admitted to the Medical College hospital with stab injuries following a clash between two groups near the polytechnic at Vattiyoorkavu late on Tuesday. The police said the clash was the sequel to an altercation at a temple festival four days back. The injured include Shiju, 25, Sajeev, 30, Sajad, 28 and Shinu, 21. While Shinu and Shiju were stabbed in the chest, Sajeev was injured in the stomach and Sajad in the chest and arms.
