IPS officer accused of sexual exploitation; probe ordered

Patna: Acting on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s orders, police have instituted an inquiry into an allegation of sexual exploitation against an IPS officer of Bihar cadre.

Amitabh (rpt Amitabh) Kumar Das, a 1994 batch IPS officer, presently posted as commandant of Bihar Military Police battalion at Jamui, has been charged by the daughter of another IPS officer with sexually exploiting her for over eight years and then turning down her plea for marriage.

The jilted woman wrote two letters to Chief Minister Kumar in January and March this year following which he ordered an inquiry by a woman IPS officer into the episode.

"The allegations against Das are very serious in nature and a woman IPS officer has been asked to conduct an inquiry," IG(Headquarters) Anil Kumar Sinha told PTI today.

Police sources said Superintendent of Police of Vaishali, Preeta Verma, interrogated the woman, who reportedly made available photographs and other documents in support of her claim.

Meanwhile, Das has denied the allegation and said the woman was being used as "a pawn by the Ranvir Sena".

He said that as the Superintendent of Police in Buxar, he had launched a campaign against the Ranvir Sena, a proscribed group of upper caste landowners.
