AHMEDABAD: Union Textiles Minister and Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela on Monday said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi "misguided everybody including the prime minister" over rehabilitation of those affected by the Narmada dam.
Speaking to reporters, Vaghela claimed that Modi had indulged in "unnecessary drama" to create a fear that the construction of Narmada dam would be stopped, while the central government had made it clear that it would not stall work after the Narmada Control Authority (NCA) increased the height of the dam from 110.64 to 121.92 metres on March 8.
"Modi, by unnecessarily creating false propaganda over the height increase of the dam, tried to invite President’s rule in Gujarat," he said. "Modi is a liar and managed to misguide people of Gujarat, the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the prime minister also," he added.
Vaghela demanded that the state government produce a white paper on the rehabilitation work done until now. "Out of 13,918 families to be rehabilitated in Madhya Pradesh for the increase in dam height, only 4,265 have got land, about 3,834 families have received only half of their compensation package while 5,822 dislocated families need complete rehabilitation," he said.
