High Court gives green signal for Smart City

KOCHI: Holding that the model code of conduct would not apply to the “Smart City” project as the decision to start it was taken in 2004 itself, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday gave the green signal to the State Government to go ahead with the signing of the final agreement of the Rs 1,500-crore IT infrastructure initiative coming up here.

The order in this regard was issued by Justice S.Sirijagan while allowing a PIL seeking to quash the State Electoral Officer Nalini Netto’s order last month prohibiting the State Government from signing the final agreement with the Dubai Technology of Media Free Zone Authority for setting up the joint venture project until the coming elections were over.

The Election Commission had submitted that executing the final agreement on the eve of the coming Assembly elections would violate the model code of conduct and asked the government to complete the formalities with regard to the project after the polls
