Kochi, Apr 21: Central Excise collections in Kerala touched Rs 3,677 crore during the financial year 2005-06 as against Rs 3,092 crore in the previous fiscal.
The service tax collections totalled Rs 455 crore during the period against Rs 356 crore in 2004-05.
In the Kochi region, comprising Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, parts of Pathnamthitta and Alapuzha districts, about Rs 3,405.41 crore was collected against Rs 2,802.33 crore, an increase of about 21.52 per cent, Cochin Central Excise Commissioner P Ayyam Perumal said here.
The major contributors were the petroleum sector, he said.
The service tax collected in the division totalled Rs 255.74 crore in 2005-06 against Rs 168.30 crore in 2004-05, a 52 per cent increase, he said.
The Kochi division accounts for 89 per cent revenue of the total central excise collections in the state.
Eleven cases involving evasion of excise duties to the tune of Rs 155.22 lakh were detected during the period.
Forty cases were booked under duty evasion for service tax.
