20 April 2006 JAIPUR — Coming close on the heels of rape of a German woman in Rajasthan, a Japanese tourist has alleged that she was raped and duped of Rs54,000 by a manager of a guesthouse in the Hindu temple town of Pushkar, 140km away from here.
The Japanese woman, in a faxed complaint to the Ajmer superintendent of police on Tuesday night, alleged that during her stay in a Pushkar guesthouse she met Bablu, the 21-year-old manager and the son of the guesthouse owner.
The accused soon won her confidence and on April 2 invited her to a party at his house where he alleged spiked her drink and later raped her. The woman has alleged that the accused robbed her of Rs 54,000, which she had given to him for safekeeping.
At present the woman is in Agra from where she informed the Japanese embassy about the incident. According to a senior police official in Pushkar, the culprit has been identified but no arrest has been made in this regard as any action could be taken only after recording the statement of the victim.
He said a police team had been dispatched to Agra to record her statement. This is the third incident of rape against foreign tourist.
