New Delhi: The body of Indian telecommunications engineer K Suryanarayana, who was killed in southern Afghanistan, purportedly by Taliban rebels, was brought home today, an official said.
After a brief ceremony at Kabul International Airport, about 10 Indian soldiers carried the coffin of Suryanarayana onto an Air India jet that then took off on a scheduled flight for New Delhi.
A senior Afghan government official had laid a floral wreath at the casket, which was draped in an Indian flag.
In New Delhi, officials from the PMO and AP government laid wreaths on the engineer’s body before it was flown to Suryanarayana’s hometown Hyderabad.
Suryanarayana, an employee of Bahrain-based al-Moayyad Company, working on a project in Zabul in Afghanistan was kidnapped by suspected Taliban militia last Friday.
The beheaded body of the 41-year-old Suryanarayana was found by a police patrol yesterday morning in Hassan Karez area in southern Zabul province.
