Ahmedabad: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has given the Gujarat government three months time to develop the necessary infrastructure for rehabilitating the women displaced by the 2002 Godhra riots.
After concluding her two-day visit to the riot affected areas, NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas said: "The rehabilitation of the riot-affected women has not been done properly. There is an immediate need to develop infrastructure like healthcare institutions and facilities for sanitation and drinking water at the rehabilitation sites where women from riot-affected families are living".
A team of NCW led by Vyas, who conducted a random survey here, found that no proper arrangement has been made by the State administration for the women displaced by the riots even after four years.
The NCW also noted that besides the absence of schools in the locality, the health centres and police stations also do not figure in the affected areas.
