Ranchi, May 6: The Adivasi Adhikar Morcha today asked the personnel department principal secretary, Mukhtiyar Singh, to delete the “religion” column from the application form for the caste certificate.
The department had circulated the forms in May 2004 to issue caste certificate. The party alleged that the column for religion was introduced with “malafide” intention.
Department sources, however, said it was issued to identify the tribals who have converted themselves from their original “sarna” religion.
In another development, the Jharkhand Janadhikar Party requested chief secretary to withdraw within three weeks the caste certificates issued since January 1996 on the basis of marriage.
The party said it would help implement the Supreme Court order given in February.
