Hyderabad, May 28: A traffic police sub-inspector has been suspended and a home guard dismissed for allegedly causing the death of two youths on a city road here.
They had allegedly tried to forcibly stop a motorcyclist driving without a helmet. He fell down and died. The pillion rider later succumbed to his injuries.
Sub-inspector, Mr Yadagiri Swamy of Saifabad was suspended and home guard, Mr Muralidhar was dismissed from service following a probe by police authorities. Interestingly, the Police Commissioner, Mr A K Mohanty said Mr Swamy was suspended for not cooperating with the investigation into the incident.
The Chief Minister, Mr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had ordered a probe into the incident after public protests. The incident took place on May 21 on Khairatabad road in the heart of the city when the policemen tried to stop the motorcycle rider.
As he tried to escape the policemen, one of them allegedly threw a baton hitting him on the hand. The vehicle wavered and the youths crashed against the road divider.
While Syed Shareef (25), died on the spot, his friend and pillion rider, Mohammed Mohsin (22), who had sustained serious head injuries, died on May 24.
