Thiruvananthapuram, June. 4 (PTI): Demanding the immediate setting up of a wage board for revision of pay scales in the media industry, journalists and non-journalists will hold a day-long sit-in protest here tomorrow.
The protest is being organised by the Joint Action Council of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) and the Kerala Newspaper Employees Federation (KNEF) at Martyrs Column in the city.
Besides the creation of the wage board, their demands include interim relief at the rate of 25 per cent, inclusion of journalists in electronic media under the purview of the Working Journalists Act and ending the contract system in the media, said a press release.
Though Union Labour Minister Chandrasekhara Rao recently assured media unions the wage board would be set up at the earliest, there was no justification for the delay in its actual constitution, the release said.
