Agartala: Border Security Force (BSF) Assistant Commandant Alok Ranjan who was seriously injured when two BSF personnel opened fire at him and Deputy Commandant Kameswar Singh at Durgapur market near the Indo-Bangla border last night succumbed to hi s injuries, police said today.
The two BSF personnel were reportedly taking bribes from a smuggler at Durgapur market. On getting this information Deputy Commandant Singh and Assistant Commandant Ranjan arrived at the spot and overpowered the two, police said.
ut one of the jawans snatched the carbine from his colleague and opened fire at Singh killing him on the spot and seriously injured Ranjan, police said.
The Assistant Commandant was admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition from where he was referred to Gobind Ballav Panth hospital here but he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital.
Tension prevails in the area but the situation is well under control, police said adding the jawan is now under the custody of BSF. The BSF has not yet handed over the jawan to the police.
